The Dixon Gallery and Gardens was founded in what has been called the greatest single act of cultural philanthropy in Memphis History. In 1976 Hugo and Margaret bequeathed their home and art collection for the enjoyment and enrichment of its citizens.
Since this bequest, thousands of people have joined The Dixon's family of friends and donors to help bring art and people together for enjoyment, discovery and learning to the Memphis community today and for future generations.
