Internship Program Description Intern Opportunities The Dixon is opening the application process for the fall 2010 Internship Program. This program operates under the direction of the education department with placements available within other departments. The museum internship will provide the student with an introduction to standard museum practice, providing professional experience and useful skills for future museum employment and further study to the field.
Internships at Dixon Gallery and Gardens are volunteer positions, and require a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Interns will be selected to work for six to eight weeks. Applicants must be at least juniors with sixty hours college credit. Interested candidates should submit the following information: - Internship Application

- A personal letter stating reasons for wanting to be an intern, how internship relates to career plans, what he/she believe they can contribute to the Dixon
- Specific information: dates available to work and number of hours per week. If doing this for university credit, supply requirements and advisor’s name.
- Two letters of recommendation – at least one from a college professor

Responsibilities are: Assist curatorial staff with research and documentation of the permanent collections, special exhibitions, or other projects. Assist at museum events when curatorial staff is involved. Assist with installation of exhibitions. Exhibition and departmental support: provide general support for many aspects of the exhibition process; assist with exhibition checklist preparation; and general departmental clerical support. Experience in the following areas preferred: Art history major preferred Proficiency in Windows, specifically Power point Well-honed research skills and knowledge of library systems Research collections Organizational skills are a must
Dixon Docent Opportunity The Dixon is now accepting applications for our fall 2010 docent training session. A successful candidate should have an interest in art, a friendly personality, good communication skills, and a desire to help others learn. An art background is not required. Docent training will cover art history, education and interpretation techniques, and tour leading practice. Training begins in October and continues through January. Docents are required to commit to two years and attend all trainings to stay up to date on current exhibitions and museum happenings.
