Dixon Gallery & Gardens Photography Policy

Professional Photography by appointment only and professional photo sessions must be scheduled at least one week in advance. Please contact Juliana Bjorklund or Sarah Catmur at 901-761-5250 or email scatmur@dixon.org

We strongly suggest that sessions be scheduled at least one week in advance to make sure the desired area is available. 


For an annual fee of $500 professional photographers/videographers will become members of the Dixon at the Patron level and have access to the Gardens for photo/video shoots for a period of one year. The annual fee includes:

  • Unlimited photography/video shoots
  • Free admission for photographer/videographer
  • Free admission for two (2) assistants
  • Free admission for ten (10) individuals per shoots. All other individuals will be charged regular Dixon Admission. Please keep groups under 20 individuals.   

Patron level membership benefits include general membership benefits for two adults and any children 17 and under, invitations to several exhibition opening events throughout the year, eight (8) guest admission passes, reciprocal privileges to over 200 museums and an invitation to one Director’s Tour.

If the photographer/videographer is not a Dixon member at the Patron level, the following fees apply:  $150 for a one-time photo/video shoot. (Please note: fee must be paid at least one week in advance, for a two hour maximum shoot.) This one-time fee includes:
  • One time Photography/ video shoot
  • Free admission for photograper/ videographer
  • Free admission for two (2) assistants
  • Free admission for ten (10) individuals. All other individuals will be charged regular Dixon Admission. Please keep groups under 20 individuals

For all photography/videography shoots:

  • Maximum length of session: Two hours
  • Maximum number of people: 20

Permitted Areas

Cutting Garden, Woodland Gardens, Formal Gardens, South Lawn, Residence Porch and South Lawn Stage. No interior spaces. Please do not step in flower beds or off the grass and pathways.

Commercial photography/video is defined as:
  • Photographs/videos involving props, changes of clothing, or more equipment than a tripod and standard flash.  
  • Photographs/videos that will be posted for sale on the Internet/portfolio, used in print for art sale, or used to advertise goods or services otherwise published. 
  • Photographs/video sessions involving a group larger than five people or involving a paid photographer. 
  • Wedding, model, and professional or otherwise commercial photography/ videography.
Private photography/video is defined as:
  • Using a non-paid photographer/videographer, requiring no change of clothing and using no more than one tripod, flash and camera.
  • Private photography/video is permitted in the Catmur foyer and in the gardens.
