Dixon Gallery & Gardens Photography Policy

General Visitor Photography

Photography is allowed in the gardens, as well as most of the museum. Photography may be prohibited for temporary/visiting exhibitions—admissions staff will inform you of any limitations during your visit. Tripods and flash photography are not permitted in any galleries. The use of drones and selfie sticks are prohibited in all areas. Please feel free to share your photos on social media using the hashtag #discoverthedixon.

Professional Photography and Videography

Commercial photography and videography at the Dixon is defined as images or video created in or of the Dixon property that any individual or organization intends to use for commercial, professional, advertising, or promotional purposes, including but not limited to film or television, advertising, retail merchandising, marketing, portfolio, educational, or published material, or any purpose for which the photographer or videographer is paid for the use of the image or video. Commercial shoots may involve props, changes of clothing, extensive equipment, and/or models or staged items. Portrait photography falls under this category and includes but is not limited to the following types of photographs: family, baby and pregnancy, wedding and engagement, class or team, prom or fraternity/sorority function, and quinceañera.

For questions or information about using photographs or video of the Dixon grounds and property for professional use outside of portrait photographs that are for private sale, please contact our Director of Communications, Chantal Drake, at 901-761-5250 ext. 108 or cdrake@dixon.org. For all other photography inquiries, please call our main line at 901-761-5250 or contact either our Director of Operations (Juliana Bjorklund, 901-761-5250 ext. 121, juliana@dixon.org) or our Venue Rental Coordinator (Sarah Catmur, 901-761-5250 ext. 101, scatmur@dixon.org).

Photography and Videography Fees

Photographer/Videographer Membership

For an annual fee of $500.00, professional photographers and videographers will become members of the Dixon at the Patron level and will have photography/videography privileges on the grounds during that year. This annual fee covers:

  • Unlimited photography/video shoots on property
  • Admission for the photographer/videographer
  • Admission for two photographer/videographer assistants per shoot
  • Admission for up to 10 individuals per shoot. Any additional individuals must pay regular Dixon admission, and no more than 20 total individuals are allowed in a single day or shoot.

For more information about general benefits of the Patron level membership, please visit http://www.dixon.org/members.

The Dixon asks that all photography and video shoots be scheduled at least three (3) days in advance. All photographer and videographer members must submit a signed copy of the Photography & Videography Guidelines when they sign up for a membership and each year that they renew their membership.

If a photography or video shoot of any kind is observed with no reservation and the photographer/videographer is not a member, nor has their client paid a one-time fee, guests will be asked to pay and sign the Photography & Videography Guidelines before continuing; the photographer/videographer will have an opportunity to sign up for a membership at that time as well/instead. If the guests or the photographer/videographer are unable or unwilling to pay, they will be asked to end their session.

One-Time Photography/Video Shoot

For a fee of $100.00, individuals or groups, as well as photographers and videographers, may schedule a single shoot on property. This fee covers:

  • 2 hours of time on property on a single day for a single shoot.
  • Admission for the photographer/videographer
  • Admission for two photographer/videographer assistants
  • Admission for up to 10 individuals. Any additional individuals must pay regular Dixon admission, and no more than 20 total individuals are allowed in a single day or shoot.

The Dixon asks that all photography and video shoots be scheduled and paid for at least three (3) days in advance. All one-time photography/video shoot groups must bring a signed copy of the Photography & Videography Guidelines to their appointment and hand it in at one of the Dixon admissions points.

If a photography or video shoot of any kind is observed with no reservation, guests will be asked to pay and sign the Photography & Videography Guidelines before continuing. If the guests are unable or unwilling to pay, they will be asked to end their session.
