September Family Studio Recap

Family Studio: Pennant Flags

I would like to thank everyone that came out for Family Studio over the weekend. It was a beautiful morning, and our craft was quick and fun. In honor of labor day, we made pennant flags. If you look at mine, you can see I still have Jun Kaneko on the brain, but there were some lovely American flag designs made, as well as fun geometric patterns. It's really hard to go wrong with a craft that's fool proof. Go ahead and gather your supplies to make your own at home.

 You will need:

  • Paper straw, or a stick of some kind
  • Scissors
  • White paper
  • Markers, pencils, crayons, colored pencils (anything you want to draw with)
  • Clear tape
  1. Cut out your triangle. I was very exact in making sure I got the most out of a sheet of paper, but you can make yours any size or shape you want. It doesn't even have to be a triangle. You could make a rectangle, or even cut a triangle out of the end of a rectangle to get the "ribbon-end" look.
  2. Color your design.
  3. Pick the pole of your flag. We used paper straws, but you don't have to. You could use: a stick, plastic straws, or a pencil. Feel free to get creative.
  4. Tape your designed flag to your pole. Go ahead and give your flag a wave!

If you made this craft with us, or at home, we would love to see it. Share your photos with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instram with #discoverthedixon and #familystudio.

Family Studio is a free drop-in art program for all ages. It happens the first Saturday of every month from 10:30am-12:30pm. Come create with us.
