The View from My Window by Nancy Trenthem

I am the executive assistant to Dixon Director Kevin Sharp.   My office is in the back of the Dixon residence, above the residence Foyer.  Before the Dixon was an art museum, my office was Mr. Dixon’s bedroom, and it is adjacent to what was Mrs. Dixon’s bedroom, which is now Kevin’s office. The view from my window is mostly of the South Lawn.  This is the largest open space of ground on Dixon property, and it is where we host our most exciting events, such as Art on Fire, Art and Soul, South Lawn Cinema, weddings, and our upcoming Symphony in the Gardens.  As I arrange Kevin’s schedule and travel plans, create PowerPoint presentations and a range of other tasks, I get to see the South Lawn transformed into the many different scenes that make the Dixon experience so wonderful.  I enjoy the day-to-day calmness that normally covers the South Lawn, as well as the hustle and bustle before events. When I am in the middle of a busy workday, the view out my window is a welcome retreat, which is true of every aspect of the Dixon. I have worked for many years in the corporate world, but to now do the work I love in the middle of a world-class art museum and garden is a very special treat.

The view from my window is often a pastoral scene with...

Foxes playing

Photos being snapped

A cat roaming

Dappled sunshine through mighty oaks

Painters and sketchers

Which can quickly turn to...

Trees bending and blowing furiously in the wind

Stages being built

Tents being erected

Great crowds celebrating

And back to...

Silent readers on benches

Peace and the wondrous world of nature

Campers playing

...All framed by my window.
