Sketching the Arctic

Elizabeth Alley explores the connection between incomplete experiences and the perceived reality of place. Moving through a place and creating work on site informs paintings and drawing installations about half-remembered landscapes, and crocheted data visualizations round out concerns about climate change impacts to vulnerable sites such as the Arctic. She received a BFA from University of Memphis, and has shown her work locally and regionally at Crosstown Arts, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Nashville International Airport, and Wavelength Gallery in Chattanooga. In 2025, she participated in the Arctic Circle residency, and worked with four artist friends to open ShapeShifter Art School and Gallery.

To reduce disruptions during the lecture, guests are asked to bring their own food from the cafe to the auditorium. You may request to-go containers to make the trip to your seat easier.
