On Saturday, August 15, the Dixon turned back the clock for 1970s Community Night, an evening filled with creativity, connection, and plenty of retro fun!
The Dixon hosts quarterly Community Days to welcome visitors of all ages to explore the museum and gardens, participate in hands-on activities, and enjoy special performances from community partners. Inspired by the Dixon’s 50th anniversary, this Community Night celebrated the decade when the museum and gardens first opened to the public.
Visitors could get creative with an assortment of groovy activities. Guests made pet rocks, decorated velvet posters, created colorful 1970s collages, and picked up temporary tattoos and party favors. A photo booth offered the perfect place to capture everyone’s retro looks.
Community partners helped make the evening even more memorable. Freddie the Art Bus brought hands-on creativity to the Dixon, while Blue Suede Vintage helped guests get into the spirit of the decade. In the days leading up to Community Night, Blue Suede Vintage also hosted a special shopping night, offering guests a chance to find the perfect vintage look for the celebration.
Good Groceries and Kona Ice joined the festivities with food and refreshing treats for guests to enjoy throughout the evening.
Visitors arrived ready to dance, make art, strike a pose, and simply enjoy an evening in the gardens! Guests had plenty of ways to join the fun. Thank you to everyone who helped us party like it was 1976!
