Motherhood in Art and Music through the Ages
Dr. Ewelina Boczkowska, Assistant Professor of Musicology, and Dr. Rebecca Howard, Associate Professor of Art History, University of Memphis
Ewelina Boczkowska serves as Assistant Professor of Musicology at the University of Memphis. Her research focuses on the intersection of music, trauma, and the fluidity of memory. She is co-editor of the Routledge series Music and Sound on the International Screen. Her third co-edited volume with Michael Baumgartner is forthcoming from Routledge, and titled: Music, Ideology, and Commerce in European Popular Cinema: 1940s to 1980s. She has published on Chopin, film music, and Polish émigré composers. She holds a PhD in musicology from the University of California, Los Angeles and was formerly a distinguished full professor at Youngstown State University. At UofM, she teaches courses on music of the Nineteenth- and Twentieth-century.
Rebecca Howard holds a PhD in art history from The Ohio State University. She specializes in early modern Italian portraiture, memory, expressions of identity and race, and Renaissance trade. She has published several articles on these topics and her book, Portraiture and Mnemonics in Renaissance Italy, is currently under contract with Amsterdam University Press. In the Department of Art & Design at the University of Memphis, she teaches courses in Renaissance and Baroque art history.
