If you're interested in applying for the next Teen Council cohort, applications are open now.

During the 2025-26 school year, the Dixon’s Teen Council played an integral role in shaping the museum’s programming. Council members collaborated to design programs, develop promotional materials, and help prepare and implement public events throughout the year.

In addition to these contributions, the teens worked together to create a collaborative work of art that reflects their shared ideas and creativity. The Dixon is excited to feature this artwork in the museum’s Interactive Gallery beginning in July 2026. Thank you to the dedicated members of the Dixon Teen Council! This annual program demonstrates the impact of teen leadership and gives youth the opportunity to shape the future of the Dixon.

There will be a virtual information meeting on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, from 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM. Guardians of Teen Council applicants are encouraged to attend.

Teen Council members meet one evening per month, typically the first Friday, September through May, to plan teen events, exhibitions, workshops, and more. Meeting days and times change annually. Applications will be live August 3rd 2026, and are due August 16th at 11:59 PM. Acceptances will go out the week of August 24th 2026.

Participant Behavior Guidelines

The Dixon’s Participant Behavior Guidelines should be followed by all participants in Dixon onsite and outreach programs. To ensure a fun, safe, and respectful environment for everyone, all participants are expected to follow these behavior guidelines.
Parents, guardians, and instructors are responsible for reviewing the guidelines with their children before the start of the program.
Guidelines
1. Participants are kind and respectful to instructors, fellow participants, and materials. Absolutely no bullying will be allowed.
2. Participants are careful and safe in the studios, galleries, and museum grounds.
3. Participants are helpful and clean up after every project.
4. Participants try activities and do not disrupt the class.
5. The use of cell phones or electronic devices is limited, and at the discretion of the instructor. Failure to follow this will end in confiscation of the device until the end of the session.
Consequences
Dixon staff uses positive reinforcement and logical consequences for challenging moments. They engage children in a dialogue about behavior, allowing them to have a constructive role in solving and fixing problems. Dixon staff will inform parents when behavioral issues arise.
Severe incidents may result in automatic removal from the program; this will be left to the discretion of the instructor and the program coordinator. Parents will be notified immediately.
If a participant does not follow these guidelines, the following steps may be taken:

Reminder of the behavior expectations.

Time away from the activity to reflect.

Communication with a parent or guardian.

Removal from the program if behavior does not improve.

Severe incidents include but are not limited to physical violence (hitting, kicking, slapping, biting, etc.), profanity, and disregard of safety instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

High school students, grades 9-12, or ages 14-18, who have an interest in pursuing a career in art, art education, or museum studies are encouraged to apply.
