Communications Intern 
10–20 hours/ week

The Dixon seeks a creative and enthusiastic Communications Intern to support the museum’s digital content and storytelling efforts. Working with the Communications team, this intern will help showcase the Dixon’s art, gardens, programs, events, and people through engaging photography, video, graphics, and written content.

This position offers hands-on experience in content creation within a collaborative museum environment. The intern will have opportunities to develop portfolio-ready work and practical skills relevant to careers in communications, social media, marketing, and museums.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Creating original content for the Dixon’s social media platforms
• Filming and editing Instagram Reels, TikToks, event recaps, interviews, and behind-the-scenes content
• Assisting with brainstorming, planning, and scheduling content for the Dixon’s content calendar
• Capturing programs, exhibitions, gardens, events, and day-to-day activities throughout the museum
• Writing engaging social media captions and other promotional copy as needed
• Organizing photo and video assets for future use
• Researching social media trends and identifying creative ways to adapt them for the Dixon’s audiences
• Collaborating with staff across departments to highlight the stories and people that make the Dixon unique

Skills/Qualifications:

• Strong attention to detail
• Interest in content creation, social media, photography, videography, marketing, or storytelling
• Familiarity with platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
• Experience with photography, video editing, or graphic design is preferred but not required
• Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud or mobile editing apps is a plus
• Comfort appearing on camera is a plus but not required
• A portfolio or examples of previous creative work are encouraged but not required

Development Intern
20-25 hours/ week

The Dixon seeks applicants for the position of Intern in the Development Department, the fundraising and member relations arm of the Dixon. The position will introduce standard fundraising practices, event planning, and the cultivation of useful skills for future development or museum employment or advanced study.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Event coordination and setup
• Membership sales at events
• Membership solicitation phone calls (Training provided)
• Internet research of best practices
• Writing content to develop summer promotions.

Skills/ Qualifications

• Proficiency in Excel, Word, and internet research is required.
• Applicants must be 21 years of age at the start date. Rising college seniors, graduates, and graduate students will be considered.

Floriculture Production Intern
40 hours/week

The floriculture production intern will work directly under the Cutting Garden/Greenhouse Manager. They will assist in sourcing seeds and plants for a cutting garden, learn how to successfully grow plants from seed to planting out, how to monitor greenhouse growing conditions, and how to work on a production team.

Responsibilities:

• Seeding and growing plants for the cutting garden
• Keeping logs for sowing, watering, fertilizing, etc.
• Weeding and grooming plants in the garden
• Cutting and conditioning plant material for arrangements

Skills/ Qualifications

• Undergraduate major in horticulture, botany, plant biology, agriculture, or a related field 
• Basic knowledge of which flowers are suited for cut flower arrangements in the Mid-South
• Interest in the mechanics of cut-flower production, including seeding, succession planting, transplanting, IPM, weed control, irrigation, fertilization, harvesting, and flower conditioning
• Basic understanding of plant biology, including plant growth, development, flowering, and environmental requirements
• Ability to work as part of a production/garden team and perform physically demanding tasks in greenhouse and garden environments
