Kids in the Garden

Every Quarter  |  $10 members; $15 non-members  

Let’s go outside and get our hands dirty! This fun gardening session will give kids a chance to experience nature up close and learn the basics about planting and garden design. This program takes place quarterly. Snack and tools included. Reservations required; space limited. Please check our event calendar for more information.

NEW! Sprouts (12-24 months)

Thursdays, 10:30am – 11:00am  |  Members free; $8 non-members

Look, listen, walk, talk, touch, smell, sing, and discover! This new interactive program for toddlers and their caregivers offers an exploration of the Dixon with all five senses. Sprouts classes focus on building social and motor skills, encouraging creative play, and having a ton of fun. Reservations required. Space limited.

NEW! -ology (ages 10-13)


Saturdays, November 3 and 10 | 1:30pm – 4:00pm | $20 members; $30 non-members

What IS printmaking, anyway? The art of printmaking is all about creating an image that you can reproduce over and over. Dating back centuries, printmaking continues to be a dynamic art form today. For young artists with experimental minds, this thrilling workshop introduces the art of printmaking and explores a broad spectrum of techniques: relief, intaglio, monotype/monoprint, and more! Come dressed for a mess.

Must be able to attend all three sessions. Supplies and snack included.

Kaleidoscope Club (ages 5-9)

Wednesdays, 4:00pm – 5:00pm  |  Members free; $8 non-members

For younger artists, Kaleidoscope Club offers a perfect mix of everything the Dixon has to offer. Each week we will begin a project that is meant to spark creativity and critical thinking. Whether it is horticulture, art, or literature, your child will surely exercise his or her imagination. Snack provided. Reservations required. Space limited.

Family Studio (all ages)

First Saturday of the month:  September 1, October 6, November 4, December 1   |  10:00am  12:00pm  |  Free 

Looking for something new and fun to do with the family on Saturday morning? Drop in at the Dixon for Family Studio, where families can create magnificent works of art, play a game, solve a puzzle, or explore the world of art through children's books. Each month highlights a different work of art from one of our exhibitions or the gardens. Please check our event calendar for more information.

Vida y Arte Family Day: Saturday, November 17, 10:00am – 2:00pm

Celebrate the Dixon’s exhibitions with your family! Join us for arts and crafts, music, refreshments, games, tours, dress up, and more. Best of all, Family Day is free. Please check our event calendar for more information and upcoming dates. 

Mini Masters (ages 2-4)

Every Tuesday  |  10:30am  11:15am  |  Free for Members; $8/child for non-members

This parent-child workshop is designed for toddlers to explore, shape, texture, color, and other sensory possibilities through art making. Each Tuesday offers a fun learning experience for you and your child, which includes a story time, hands-on art activity, and snack.

Reservations Required as space is limited. Please call Tuesday at 11:30 am through the next Monday at noon. Neither day-of registration nor unregistered participants are permitted. To register, please call (901) 761-5250. 

Girl Scout Badges at the Dixon

Dixon Gallery and Gardens and Girl Scouts Heart of the South have teamed up to make it easy and fun to earn a variety of badges at the Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette levels. Bring your troop to learn about subjects from painting to gardening while enjoying everything the Dixon has to offer. Girl Scout Badge workshops are two hours and meet all requirements for the badge.

Supplies included.
Cost: $5 per participant.

Troop leaders are responsible for provided badges.
